Celluloid dolls were very popular from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century because of their affordability and character. Celluloid is one of the earliest forms of plastic. Many of these dolls were made in Germany, including this particular fellow (who appears to have seen something quite alarming). He is about 2.5 inches tall.
